INTERN

innova ddb ghana

I visited Accra, Ghana with other SOJC media professionals to practice our future trades. We saw goats strapped on-top tro-tros (modded minivans), slave castles, wildlife reserves, dema dancing, and the final resting place of W. E. B. Du Bois. While there, we participated in all facets of Ghanaian media: Congress reporting, investigative journaling, local tv and radio production, and international digital/tv/out-of-home advertising.

internship

On my first day, I made a digital ad and held a camera for Innova’s monthly corporate durbar meeting. For the next five weeks I produced on and off set for five of Innova’s clients: MTN, ICAG, ReZultZ Advertising, GTP Fashion, and Ninani Productions (Innova’s parent production group). I even edited a documentary teaser for my friend Carl.

takeaways

Being a producer is making things happen and supporting the process. Being yourself is committing to living your life. Being present is knowing that no man is an island.

I learned to manage live broadcast and production, shoot and edit behind the scenes footage, and generally make things happen for myself and my friends in Accra.
